Speak No Evil recorded tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter in Rudy Van Gelder's Englewood Studios for Blue Note in December 1964. It was Shorter's third album for the label, with which he finally established himself as the driving force of "modern" jazz. Together with his colleagues Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Ron Carter and Elvin Jones, he recorded six compositions of his own that range between hard bop and modal jazz.
